Menu of The Month



Alomo Rice


1 kg meat or chicken
1 garlic clove ( optional )
1 tsp. basil or thyme
500 ml chopped tomatoes
40 ml vegetable oil
20 ml tomatoes puree
20 g salad leaves
2-3 onions ( medium size )
200 vegetables ( Pies, carrots, corn, green Pepper )
400 g rice ( preferable long corn rice )
Ĺ tsp. ginger ( optional )
1 tbs. coarse red pepper
3/4 litre water

Cut the meat in reasonable sizes approximately 2 cm cubes, finely sliced onions and garlic. Heat the oil in a saucepan, until itís hazy. Add the meat, onion, salt, pepper, ginger, garlic and steam it for about 10-15 minutes (until the meat is slightly brown, stir occasionally). Add the chopped tomatoes, the puree, Basil or thyme, vegetables and a little bit of water (ľ cup). Let it cook for about 15 minutes. Stir very often. Add the rest of the water. Wash the rice carefully, and add it to the sauce and stir the sauce until you get it well mixed. (Advice: Stir once in while, until the rice has absorbed almost all the water.) Place a piece of foil on the top of the pot, and cover the pot with its lid. Reduce the temperature to lowest and let it cook for about 20-30 minutes. Add a little bit of water to the rice, if you feel the rice is still a little bit hard. (You canít avoid, that the bottom of the rice burns a little bit.) You can prepare the chicken the same way like the meat or prepare the joloff rice with only vegetables and serve it with fried chicken. Look under fried chicken!
Serve on salad leaves.
